Note: if you are viewing this on a mobile device there seems to be a glitch where the dates aren't showing properly. I won't be fixing this as the same problem doesn't appear to be happening with actual artist pages that the public see. I studied theatre design at Central School of Art and Design in the late 1960s. My initial professional practice was scenography, designing drama, opera and dance productions in the UK and internationally. From 1976, I also taught in, and helped run, arts institutions in London, Hong Kong and Singapore. I am a Fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and was awarded a Professorship of Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. I established a studio in Norfolk in 2014. Working primarily in mixed media, wood and book art, my work has been included in exhibitions in the UK, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. One of my artist book publications, made in collaboration with Michael Abrahams, has been acquired by the Tate Library.
I am a passionate believer in the fundamental importance of creativity. I am primarily interested in the interplay between the conscious and intuitive processes involved in artistic investigation and try to allow the techniques and materials I use to guide me towards an authentic outcome, although notions of "finished" remain elusive. I feel privileged to be able to work every day.
