I’ve been doing pottery for about 25 years now, originally starting at night class at a High School in Aylsham. I did do some while being an A level student at Sprowston sixth form alongside doing papier mache forms. I have always been interested in 3D objects and also created forms using mod roc whilst studying for teachers training at Nottingham Trent University. My pottery is mainly sculptural and suitable for the garden as I use a stoneware clay called ‘Crank’ that is quite course in texture and frost resistant. I hand-build planters using a variety of methods including coil, slab or pinching and ornamental pieces to display in the garden. Some of my pieces are also for use in the home. I recently took up throwing pottery on a wheel and did a six weeks course at Alby Crafts. I have my own beginners wheel and acquired my own kiln. It has been wonderful learning these new skills on operating a kiln and throwing on a wheel that I feel I still have lots to learn! I have my own studio at home that is in my garage a small part of it that I have filled now to the brim. I take part in several craft fairs through the year if time allows. I am a wife and mother of two children and have a dog that takes up lots of my time. I also have a part time job in my local Coop. Whenever I can I am at work in my studio. I am very passionate about pottery, it’s my favourite occupation. I find it very therapeutic and love to see the results after it’s been glaze fired. Sometimes disappointing but mostly successful and sometimes not at all as expected. I have a large selection of glazes for dipping and some for painting on and like to experiment with different colours. I also use earthernware clay for my handbuilt indoor pieces and for hand throwing and some using drape forms or moulds.
