Deborah Phillips is a UK-based contemporary artist working across abstract painting and mixed media. Her work is recognised for its rich colour, layered textures and playful exploration of materials.

Inspired by colour, nature, fabric and pattern, Deborah’s paintings develop intuitively, building surface and movement through repeated layers. From soft, meadow-like palettes to bold, expressive abstracts, her work invites viewers to slow down, look closely and enjoy the tactile qualities of paint.

Alongside painting, Deborah creates mixed media and sculptural works that incorporate textiles, mirror and found materials. Her mirror mosaic pieces and hand-crafted lamps introduce light, reflection and humour into the work, adding another dimension to her practice. A background in fashion and textiles strongly informs her approach, bringing a love of structure, surface and detail to everything she makes.

Deborah is known for creating distinctive statement pieces, including a mirror-backed stag sculpture that playfully reimagines traditional decorative forms, and her mixed media penguin artwork, which combines painting and sculpture to explore themes of environment, scale and storytelling. These works sit comfortably alongside her more painterly abstracts, reflecting a practice that is both cohesive and joyfully varied.

Process is central to Deborah’s work. She enjoys allowing each piece to evolve in its own time, embracing imperfection and unexpected moments as part of the creative journey. Many works carry a quiet narrative, offering viewers space to form their own connections rather than being directed toward a single interpretation.

Visitors to Deborah’s studio will discover a vibrant and welcoming space, showing a mix of finished pieces and works in progress — from colourful abstract paintings and fabric-based works to mirror mosaics, lamps and sculptural pieces. Deborah enjoys sharing her process and stories behind the work, and believes that art should feel approachable, engaging and enjoyable.
