Note: if you are viewing this on a mobile device there seems to be a glitch where the dates aren't showing properly. I won't be fixing this as the same problem doesn't appear to be happening with actual artist pages that the public see. Anglia Ruskin Cambridge 1st B.A.Hons Design ( Ceramics) 1999
In Autumn '99 I set up Cossey's Yard studio, next to Salhouse Broad and travelled for the first time to Japan to study in Mashiko with Hamada Tomo-o, the grandson of Shoji Hamada, one of the founders of the Mingei movement. This was the first of many visits, initially to study and visit the ceramic towns, and later to exhibit in Tokyo and Osaka and in 2012, undertake a summer long residency in Tokoname, one of the original seven kiln towns of Japan.
Many cultural exchanges and visits have taken place since, most recently the "Ichi go -Ichi eh" at Mandell's Gallery, Norwich in 2024 with Tokoname potter Mieko Sagisaka.
Work is held in private collections around the World and I am represented in Norwich by Mandell's Fine Art Gallery.

Black clay is thrown and hand built, with surface pattern and texture abstracted from many images of both rural and urban Japan using multi layers of porcelain slips and glazes.
