I started my pottery journey in 2016, a few years after retiring from my previous passion, rescuing primates in west Africa…Leaving this work left a rather large hole in my liffe- Pottery has helped fill that space, together with riding my horses and voluntary work with the RIding for the Disabled. I have no artistic or ceramic training, just a year of a weekly evening class. I found I loved the challenge and focus required! My work has simple lines and focuses on raku, saggar firing and bright earthenware kitchen and tableware. Mostly wheel thrown work, I also dabble in sculpture and hand building. I am inspired by the natural world and colour. I love the dynamic nature of raku and saggar and use glazes, horsehair, feathers, ferric chloride and oxides. I am also a fan of bubble glazing and using brightly coloured underglazes.
