Nicholas is an oil painter who explores composition to create dynamic contemporary still life and floral paintings.

At the completion of an Art Foundation course Nicholas's parents persuaded him not to continue with his degree in favour of a secure job that would provide a regular income. He went on to work in magazine publishing and marketing but then in 2000 he sold out of his Chelsea based marketing company to pursue his real ambition - a career in Art.

He lived cheaply in India and Andalusia where he taught himself the rudiments of oil painting returning to Somerset in the UK in 2004 participating in local shows and exhibitions. His work continued to develop and in 2008 he participated in a 3 man exhibition in London’s Cork Street where he enjoyed enormous success. Two years later he moved to live and work in France transforming an old barn into a dream studio but was forced to give this up when he had to return to the UK to receive treatment for cancer of the jaw. Following life changing surgery he moved to North Norfolk to convalesce where he now lives and works. Nicholas exhibits regularly across the region, provides one-to-one tuition and is an active council member of the Institute of East Anglian Artists.

Life experiences undoubtably influence Nicholas's colourful and considered work. His paintings often feature 'stuff close to home' and quintessentially English paraphernalia which are clearly a reflection on the comfort and reassurance he has found in the familiar following his experience of being taken ill abroad. An example of this is his fascination with Cornishware which began on holiday as a young child where he remembers the ‘cheerful tableware’ and associates it with the joy of sun, sea and sand. His paintings continue to evolve and engage as they explore tight and lose paint applications across delightful compositions.

Nicholas exhibits regularly across East Anglia, provides one-to-one tuition and a member of both the The Ipswich Art Society.

Nicholas undertakes commissions and is happy to arrange visits to his studio to view current work. Feel free to contact him for more details.
