Welcome to my pottery. This is the first time I have exhibited at Open Studios.
I studied Fine Art, painting at Reading University in the early 1980s and did a Masters at NUA in Art and Design Education in 2010.
Having retired from teaching I set up my small, studio in my garden during lockdown. Here I planned to do both painting and pottery, however, recently pottery become my focus. Clay has fascinated me for quite a while. I like experimenting with forms, painting on pottery with underglaze and also trying out different types of glazes, combining them to create reactions that produce new colours. Besides creating wonderful surfaces, texture interrupts the flow of glaze, which produces interesting breaks in colour.
My pots reflect the texture and colour of the seascapes and undulating landscapes around Sheringham. They include planters, plaques, and domestic ware as well as sculptures of both pets and some of the animals I see locally.
You can't fail to see things grow, age, erode and die living on the edge of Sheringham Common by the beach. There's inspiration for me in seaweed, shells, skeletons, flowers, seed heads, branches, bark and leaves. I aspire to create something that feels alive and has life of its own. I am always looking, making and learning and I can't wait to share my creative discoveries with you!
